Aki Maehara needs us to come through for him at this seriously critical period when he was almost murdered.

This is one of those Ground Zero civil rights points in the history of this country because this is where the majority of Los Angeles Japanese American families were forced to line up to board the buses that would take them to incarceration.including those chapters where we failed to live up to our own democratic ideals.

And it’s personal to me because my grandparents were rounded up on this very corner in 1942.I wholeheartedly believe in the practice of deliberating God.The implications of what’s happening now stretch far beyond America’s historical sites.

My father wrote in his diary in 1943.but the histories of other oppressed communities as well.

primarily of our Latinx/Hispanic neighbors.

or to change the way we honor history and the people who made that hstory.there’s plenty of people that come back and volunteer.

all of us as participants were of mixed ethnicity.I have seen that the court is a platform that inspires young girls and the next generation of the Japanese American community.

And so it’s something that I just want to share with as many people as I can.Rafu: Why did you decide to make the Nisei Week Queen and Court program the subject of your film?Aiko: I think there’s so much that we can learn from a program like this.
